🇶🇦 Administrative Divisions of Qatar

Qatar is administratively divided into eight municipalities (Arabic: baladiyah), which serve as the main framework for local governance, urban planning, public services, and regional development.

As of the most recent reorganization in 2014, the municipalities of Qatar are as follows:

🏙️ 1. Ad-Dawhah (Doha)

• The capital and largest city of Qatar.

• The political, economic, cultural, and administrative heart of the country.

• Home to government ministries, international institutions, and major corporate headquarters.

• Notable districts include West Bay, Al Sadd, Bin Mahmoud, Airport Area, and the Corniche.

🌴 2. Al Rayyan

• Located to the west of Doha, it is the second-most populous municipality.

• Includes growing suburban areas such as Al Luqta, Al Gharrafa, Umm Al Afaei, and Al Wajbah.

• Hosts major institutions like Qatar University, Education City, and several FIFA World Cup 2022 stadiums.

🌊 3. Al Wakrah

• Situated to the south of Doha.

• Once a traditional fishing village, now a fast-developing urban and industrial hub.

• Includes major projects such as Al Wakrah Port and the Mesaieed Industrial Area.

🌾 4. Al Khor & Al Thakhira

• Located in northeastern Qatar.

• Known for its maritime heritage and traditional economy based on pearl diving and fishing.

• Close to major development zones, including the emerging Lusail City.

🏞️ 5. Al Shamal

• The northernmost municipality and one of the least populated areas in Qatar.

• Features small coastal villages, natural landscapes, and archaeological sites.

🌇 6. Umm Salal

• Lies just north of Doha.

• A blend of rural and suburban development, with residential districts and agricultural land.

• Includes towns like Umm Salal Mohammed and Umm Salal Ali.

🏘️ 7. Al Daayen

• One of Qatar’s newest municipalities.

• Known for modern urban development and housing projects.

• Home to the futuristic Lusail City, one of Qatar's flagship urban initiatives.

🌄 8. Al Shahaniya

• Established as an independent municipality in 2014 (formerly part of Al Rayyan).

• Known for its cultural heritage, including the famous camel racing track at Al Shahaniya.

• Contains semi-desert areas and agricultural projects.

For planning and statistical purposes, Qatar’s municipalities are further divided into 98 zones, which are then subdivided into blocks—the smallest administrative units in the country.
